Rural communities are almost always short staffed and under-equipped when it comes to public services. Vital technologies that can bridge this gap are available but inaccessible because agencies can barely staff officers, much less the administrative personnel needed to find outside funding and equipment.
At Calhoun Community Charter Corp, or "C4", our Mission is to support rural and under-served first responders, law enforcement agencies and communities by providing grant writing capabilities, equipment procurement and community outreach.
The Calhoun State Prison, built in 1993, was supposed to have brought jobs and revenue to our community. Instead, the prison now acts as a smuggling hub, bringing drugs, contraband, and dangerous criminals to our backyards. Last year, in a rural county of under 4000 citizens, over Three Hundred criminals were arrested for attempting to run, sneak, and even -fly- drugs into the prison. The resulting chases have caused civilian homes to be broken into, vehicles stolen, and lives put at risk. Our county must have the funds and the equipment to keep our citizens safe.
